鈥淎 Day with LUCI鈥 takes place April 26, 9 a.m.-4 p.m., at the T.K. Martin Center and is open to professionals in the field of assistive technology, including occupational and physical therapists, speech language pathologists, teachers and counselors. The session provides an introduction to LUCI, an innovative power wheelchair system of smart sensors that can help prevent injury and damage during wheelchair use.

Registration is $150 per person and includes a CEU credit, classroom instruction, end user panel discussion, hands-on training and lunch. Participants can register for the training at .

During the hands-on portion, participants will learn about the programing, options and features of the system and practice using LUCI on different styles of wheelchairs. The smart sensors alert individuals when they are too close to an obstacle and stop the chair鈥檚 movement. This added level of safety makes independent mobility more accessible for individuals.

鈥淭his course is designed to encourage collaboration and learning across all disciplines that work with assistive technology,鈥 said Rebecca Mathis, an assistive technology specialist at the T.K. Martin Center. 鈥淭he hands-on experience is valuable in helping understand the technologies and their limitations.鈥
