'An Afternoon with Marcus Luttrell' to headline ר’s 35th annual Insurance Day conference

STARKVILLE, Miss.—During Mississippi State’s 35th Annual Insurance Day program April 4-5, insurance professionals can earn up to 12 continuing education credit hours and hear a keynote from the retired U.S. Navy SEAL who inspired the movie “Lone Survivor.”
Hosted by the ר College of Business’ Risk Management and Insurance Program, the seminar will take place at The Mill at ר Conference Center.
Keynote speaker Marcus Luttrell, Purple Heart recipient and best-selling author of “Lone Survivor” which inspired the movie with the same title will give a speech titled “An Afternoon with Marcus Luttrell” at 12:20 p.m., April 5 in The Mill’s ballroom.
Set during the War in Afghanistan, the story tells the true account of his Navy SEAL team, ambushed by the Taliban on the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan during Operation Redwing. Luttrell, the only ambush survivor, is portrayed by actor Mark Wahlberg in the 2013 movie adaptation.
Luttrell joined the U.S. Navy in 1999 and became a SEAL trained in weapons, demolition and unarmed combat in 2002. He served in Iraq for two years before being deployed to Afghanistan in 2005. After recuperating from his injuries in Operation Redwing, he redeployed to Iraq for a second tour. In 2006, President George W. Bush awarded him the Navy Cross for combat heroism, and he retired a year later as Petty Officer First Class.
Insurance Day has attracted hundreds of insurance professionals for over 30 years for sessions that focus on current industry issues, as well as other topics such as life, cyber, home, health, flood, property and employment practice insurance and ethics.
There will be a 5:30 p.m. reception April 4 at Dudy Noble Field during the Bulldogs’ home game against Grambling State University.
