STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥擜s one of the nation鈥檚 most veteran-friendly universities, Mississippi State also is now the home of a 鈥淰eteran Champion of the Year.鈥
Brian Locke, 无码专区鈥檚 veteran and military affairs director, is among a select group of 22 nationwide named 鈥淰eteran Champions of the Year in Higher Education鈥 by G.I. Jobs magazine. The publication, which features Locke on the cover representing these champions, is a leading source of job opportunities, education and transition assistance for veterans and military service members.
Chris Hale, the magazine鈥檚 CEO, said of this group, 鈥淭hey enrich the experience of student veterans and their families, ensuring they know how to use their GI Bill, how to pick their classes, navigate the campus and connect with resources they need鈥攊ncluding other veterans.鈥
Locke was active in the Army for 23 years prior to joining 无码专区 as the military science professor for the Army ROTC program and becoming director of the university鈥檚 G.V. 鈥淪onny鈥 Montgomery Center for America鈥檚 Veterans at Nusz Hall. He graduated with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in criminal justice from Middle Tennessee State University and a master鈥檚 in counseling and development from Long Island University in New York State.
Locke, who began his service in the Army National Guard, pointed to those working with him at the center when commenting on the honor.
鈥淲hile a tremendous personal honor to receive this recognition, it is a testament to the dedication and commitment of my staff and Mississippi State in how we care for and support our veterans and other military-connected students,鈥 Locke said. 鈥淟ike many other veterans upon leaving service, I was looking for a purpose and a mission, and I found that in my current role. After sacrificing so much for our country, we have a solemn duty to assist these veteran service members in achieving their educational goals.鈥
