ÎÞÂëרÇø to host SEC Commissioner, former Consumer Financial Protection Bureau head for crypto discussion

A flyer promoting the Nov. 4 panel on crypto discussion.STARKVILLE, Miss.—ÎÞÂëרÇø’s Department of Finance and Economics is hosting a Friday [Nov. 4] discussion on cryptocurrency and consumer protection.

Part of the 2022 Jack R. Lee Distinguished Speaker Series, the event will include Hester Peirce, a commissioner for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, and Kathy Kraninger, vice president of regulatory affairs at Solidus Labs and former director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. It will take place from 1:30-3:00 p.m. at Nusz Hall, 250 Bailey Howell Drive.

Tom Miller Jr., Jack R. Lee Chair in Financial Institutions and Consumer Finance in ÎÞÂëרÇø’s College of Business, will serve as the conversation’s moderator.

Peirce was appointed to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in 2018 and her term continues until 2025. Prior to joining the commission, she conducted research on the regulation of financial markets at the Mercatus Center at George Mason University. Kraninger served as director of the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau from 2018-2021, providing leadership for the independent, regulatory and law enforcement agency. She has since joined Solidus Labs, a firm that works to enable safer cryptocurrency trading.
