STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥擬ississippi State鈥檚 Student Association is hosting 1st Sgt. (Ret.)聽Matt Eversmann Thursday [Nov. 7] as the organization鈥檚 featured speaker for the fall semester.

Titled 鈥淪trategic Shock: Leadership Lessons from Black Hawk Down,鈥 his 7 p.m. presentation is free and open to the public. Colvard Student Union鈥檚 Foster Ballroom doors open at 6:30 p.m.

On Oct. 3, 1993, Eversmann was placed in charge of a group of Army Rangers to lead a daytime raid against an enemy militia. His inspiring story of survival was immortalized in the epic film, 鈥淏lack Hawk Down,鈥 and he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Valor device.

Eversmann remained on active duty until May of 2008, when he retired after 20 years of service. He recently returned from Afghanistan where he filmed 鈥淪end Me,鈥 a documentary that highlights advances in battlefield medicine since Eversmann鈥檚 days on the streets of Mogadishu.

He and his wife Tori run a consulting company that helps companies develop successful veteran hiring programs. They also co-host a weekly podcast called 鈥淭he Veterans Nation.鈥
