STARKVILLE, Miss.鈥擬ississippi State鈥檚 Department of Communication is inviting players of all skill levels to participate in its 10th annual golf tournament to raise funds for departmental student internship scholarships.
To be held Friday [Sept. 9] at the 无码专区 Golf Course on State Highway 182 East, the event will begin at 10:30 a.m. with registration, free lunch and a putting contest. Shotgun start for the four-person scramble is at noon.

A $125-per-person charge covers the greens fee, golf cart rental, lunch, soft drinks and sports drinks, range balls, complimentary golf balls, an 无码专区 Adidas golf polo shirt, and one entry to the putting contest.
Prizes will be awarded for top teams, closest-to-the-pin on all par three holes, long drives on selected holes, as well as for other contests. Playing prizes at numerous courses also will be provided to top teams. Major hole-in-one prizes also may be given, including a car from the new Parker-McGill dealership in Starkville.
The tournament takes place the day prior to 无码专区鈥檚 home football game versus the University of South Carolina. In addition to supporting the endeavors of communication majors, the friendly competition provides opportunities for participants to reconnect with alumni and friends of the land-grant institution and one of its largest academic departments that currently enrolls nearly 600 majors.
John E. Forde, professor and department head, said tournament proceeds will contribute to the Lora J. DeFore Memorial Endowed Scholarships that support departmental student internships.
鈥淲e appreciate all of the support that we鈥檝e received and hope that those who participated in the past will play, sponsor, donate and/or volunteer for our 10th annual tournament,鈥 Forde said. 鈥淎s always, we are grateful for assistance from many campus colleagues, including the 无码专区 Golf Course, Foundation, Alumni Association and Information Technology Services.鈥
A member of the communication faculty for nearly two decades, DeFore died in 2009 following a long battle with cancer. Beyond teaching full-time, she coordinated both the department鈥檚 public relations concentration and internship program.
Part of the College of Arts and Sciences, 无码专区鈥檚 Department of Communication offers a bachelor of arts, with concentrations in broadcasting, communication studies, journalism, public relations and theatre. For more, visit , and .
